In 1776, the 13 colonies, in the United States, declared their independence from Great Britain. The founding fathers – John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison – worked their lives to gain independence from their former leaders.
The Declaration of Independence, as a result, was created. Many Americans confuse this with the constitution – which guarantees Americans the Natural rights they take for granted. However, the Declaration of Independence brings more sentimental value. Every year Americans gather around a barbecue grill or purchase fireworks to ignite illegally. According to Wallet hub, Americans plan to spend $1.6 Billion on forms of Alcohol. July 4th represents an American culture that parties often more than previous generations.
However this year the fourth of July celebrations became politicized. Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States, modified the traditional celebration of the fourth of July. Traditionally, there is a fireworks display from the National Mall. This year, President Trump made an addition: he decided to address a national audience. Many political pundits believed Trump would attack opposing democrats running for the 2020 presidency. Journalists criticized Trump for diverting funds, $2.5 Million, from the National Park Service to his personal celebration. Trump impressed not addressing politics, but rather celebrating America. He thanked the Military Veterans for their contributions to our nation. Also included in this celebration – a parade. There were Military tanks, the Blue Angels, and the signature fireworks.
This may or may not have been the nation the founding fathers envisioned, but on this July 4th Americans came together to celebrate national pride.
